A Guide to the Trendiest Areas of Bangkok to Buy a Condo

If you are smitten with Thailand and are looking for a luxury condo unit, you certainly wouldn’t be alone, as expats and the semi-retired sell up in their home country and are looking to base themselves in Bangkok. Whatever your reasons for wanting a condo unit in the City of Angels, there are many great developments, and with that in mind, here are a few very popular districts in Bangkok.

  • Lower Sukhumvit – The lower Sukhumvit Road (Soi 4 – 71) is full of attractive condo developments, depending on which area suits you, and if you want to view one of the best, check out The Estelle, Phrom Phong, which is a high-end development that simply ticks all the boxes for the expat who prefers luxury living. Don’t consider developments that are under construction, as that merely adds another risk to the equation, besides, there are developments that completed and ready to move in. Soi 39 is very much the Japanese sector, with supermarkets that sell Japanese products, while the hip area of Thong Lor (Soi 55) is very pricy but you are in the trendiest area of the city.
  • Upper Sukhumvit – This starts at Phrakanong (Soi 71) and runs right into Samut Phrakan and sois 71, 73, 77, 81, 83 and 89 all have quality condo developments that are completed and occupied. This is a favourite for those that like to be close to Rama IX Park, which was built to commemorate Rama IX’s 60th birthday, and you would need a few days to view the many developments along this section of the road.
  • Silom Road – The CBD of the city, Silom and Sathorn also has some stunning developments, especially on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. If you’re working in the financial sector, this is the place to live, and with Lumpini Park nearby, you can visit when you feel the need to be close to nature.
  • Ram Indra – On the east side of the city, Ram Indra is the home of some stunning condo developments, and with BTS Skytrain under construction, this district will soon be connected to the BTS system. Ram Indra Road runs from Laksi through to Minburi and if you want great value units, this is a good area to look.

Of course, there are many suburbs in Bangkok, but the above are the most popular locations for expats, so you should be able to search online and create a shortlist of developments to view.
