Garden Maintenance Tips

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a garden, so if you do, you’ll want to make the most of it. That means you’ll need to know how to take care of it so that it always looks its best, and you can go outside and enjoy it any time you want to. Although this will mean putting in some effort, it will all be worth it when you see how beautiful your garden looks and how much more it’s used. With that in mind, here are some garden maintenance tips to help you get the garden of your dreams.

Water It Right

If you only do one thing for your garden, that one thing should be watering it. Although some shrubs and plants are quite content with very little water, and they can be left alone for the most part, the majority of plants you’ll have in your garden will need regular – daily, during the hottest months – watering. Your lawn will also need to be kept well-watered. Otherwise, it will go brown and die off.

If you are going to water your garden manually, it’s best to wait until early evening or even early morning to do it. If you water your garden when the sun is still shining and hot, much of what you put down will evaporate before it can feed the plants. Wait until it’s cooler, and this won’t be an issue.

Clean Your Pond

If you have a pond, you need to think about this as well when you are coming up with your garden maintenance plans. Part of this can be done automatically when you have good quality pond filters from Oase Living Water, for example. However, although these filters will do an excellent job and will protect your pond from the worst of the muck and debris that can fall into it, you’ll still need to check it over and use a net to remove any large pieces of rubbish or plant life that has fallen into the water.

You will also need to ensure that the water chemistry is right. You can buy chemicals to add to your pond to keep the water chemistry at the right level. When you do this, the good bacteria will thrive, as will your fish and plants.

Take Care Of Weeds

Weeds can be a big problem in a garden; you’ll be able to spot them easily, as they will look out of place in your flowerbeds or lawn, and they’ll ruin the look that you were going for when you planted the original seeds, bulbs, or plants. Not only that, but weeds can take away nutrients from the plants you actually do want, causing them to wither or even die. Therefore, it’s crucial to remove the weeds quickly.

You can do this by hand, and it’s actually a rather relaxing pastime, especially if it’s a warm day and you can focus on the task at hand. However, if you have less time or you just don’t enjoy weeding, it’s better to prevent them from growing in the first place. There are a variety of methods to employ to do this, but adding mulch to the earth or placing a membrane underneath the soil are both good optio
